The story so far

The Black Tulips were formed in early 2005 by Alexandra and Lord Fuxley, naming themselves after Alexandre Dumas' account of the rare and contradictory bloom. After several legendary maverick gigs as a twosome, Barnabas, Heidi and then Deadman joined saying things that are too flattering to publish but will be told in nervous tones after an iced tea or two.

It took only one rehearsal together to realise that The Black Tulips were going to be special. Maybe only to them. It is hoped not.

The Line-up

Alexandra
The frontwoman. Vocalist and songwriter.
Eloquent and vulgar, wild and shy; often to be found taking tea.

Lord Fuxley
The changeling. Lead guitarist and songwriter.
Uncompromising in sound and fury; enigmatic orchestrator with myriad aliases.

Heidi Heelz
The glamorous lefthander. Bassist.
Quite the lady about town. 50% of The Utopians, sometime cigarette girl, all-time Brighton DJ royalty.

Barnabas
The tall stranger. Guitarist.
Beloved by sensitive ladies across the land. And indeed in the wider Empire.

Deadman
The mysterious drummer.

The Music

Scalpel-sharp lyrics that require a dictionary to untangle; new songs that you've known all your life; a voice that soars, sears and mesmerises.

It is not often that a band can be believed in.

Tulip Factlets

1. We all have the same hand span.

2. Barnabas and Alexandra went to the same school in Dorset.

3. Alexandra and Barnabas have inexplicable limb lumps.

4. Barnabas met Brian Molko backstage once and was surprised to discover that Brian only comes up to his nipple.
